John T. Bell, M.D., graduated in 1975 from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia with a B.S. in Biology then finished his medical school training at The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia in 1981. After graduating medical school, Dr. Bell attained his internship at Presbyterian St. Lukes Medical Center in Denver, Colorado in 1982 and completed his Medical Ophthalmology residency at The Medical College of Georgia in 1985. Since then, he has practiced general ophthalmology in West Virginia and Florida – specializing in cataract surgery and advanced Glaucoma treatment including shunting, filtering, and endoscopic laser treatment for advanced disease.
Dr. Bell performs selective laser treatments for early- and medium-stage Glaucoma, reducing the need for topical medications. He also has an interest in complicated and recurrent pterygium management with the P.E.R.F.E.C.T. procedure (without the use of chemical agents or radiation) pioneered by Dr. Lawrence Hirst of Australia. In addition, Dr. Bell has interests in advanced dry eye care and medical and laser treatment for diabetic eye disease. He has been board certified since 1987 and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Currently, Dr. Bell resides in Tallahassee with his wife and two sons. Dr. Bell is multi-lingual and speaks English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
