LASIK
is an acronym that stands for Laser Assisted InSitu Keratomileusis – a two-step procedure using non-thermal pulses of light to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism with maximum precision.  The laser gently reshapes the cornea, changing its focusing ability and improving vision.

Thanks to recent advancements in laser technology, beam profile, diagnostics, and surgical techniques, LASIK has become the safest, most advanced, and most popular, method of vision correction available today. Each year, nearly a million people worldwide bring their world back into focus through LASIK.

At Eye Center South, we specialize in the latest forms of LASIK, multifocal lens implants, and technologically advanced procedures to help improve your vision. We offer the most modern surgical techniques and convenient, low monthly payment plans.

FAQs

How do I know if I’m eligible to have LASIK surgery?

Your doctor will perform a thorough eye exam and discuss:

  • Whether you are a good candidate

  • The risks, benefits, and alternatives of the surgery

  • What to expect before, during, and after surgery

  • What your responsibilities will be before, during, and after surgery

How do I prepare for a LASIK evaluation?

If you wear contact lenses, it is critical to stop wearing them before your evaluation and surgery. Contact lenses change the shape of your cornea and it is crucial that the cornea return to its natural shape before testing is performed and measurements are calculated for your treatment. Failing to leave your contacts out with NO use for the proper time before surgery can have negative results and cause the need for re-treatments or enhancements.

    • Soft contact lenses – Stop wearing for two weeks before your initial evaluation.

    • Toric soft or rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses and hard lenses – Stop wearing for at least six weeks before your initial evaluation.

Be sure to tell your doctor:

    • About past and present medical and eye conditions

    • About all medications, including over-the-counter medications and any allergies.
