Optometrist
Dr. Erika Poikey, O.D., initially pursued a degree in Civil Engineering for 2.5 years before switching to Biology, earning her Bachelor's in Biology from Ferris State University in 2012. After completing her undergraduate studies in Michigan, Dr. Poikey attended the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, where she contributed to low vision research under her Vision Science professor and tutored at a local elementary school.
Dr. Poikey completed internships at the Lions Club Vision Clinic, focusing on Vision Therapy and Binocular Vision, the University of Kentucky Ophthalmology and Ocular Emergency Department, the Illinois Eye Institute for Anterior Segment Disease, and the Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Optometry Clinic for Ocular Disease and Low Vision. After graduating, she practiced in Fort Wayne, IN, for two years before moving to Alabama, where she worked for over four years at a surgical center and two private optometry practices in Montgomery, AL.
Dr. Poikey has been happily married to her husband, Robert, since 2021, and they recently welcomed their daughter, Aria. In their spare time, they enjoy hiking with their three greyhounds, kayaking, hunting, fishing, and taking full advantage of Alabama’s warmer weather after growing up in Michigan’s colder climate.
They did a great job getting me in and out. Super nice. Dr. Poikey was so sweet and energetic. I felt like we could be best friends. Been going to the optometrist for 26years. Hands down best experience. She's great.
- Rebecca T.Dr. Poikey and the team at Vision Center South is the best! Dr. Poikey was always going the extra mile to make sure I was receiving the best care, whether that’s squeezing me in last minute when in pain and finding new ways to treat my condition. She is very knowledgeable and her staff is so kind. Best eye practice!
