Eye Center South Welcomes Dr. Sarah Amanullah, Bringing Ophthalmology to Troy

Eye Center South is pleased to welcome Sarah Amanullah, MD, a board-certified ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon, to our Troy, Alabama location beginning October 8. Her arrival marks an important expansion of eye care in Troy by introducing our ophthalmology service line to a location that has previously focused on optometry and optical services. With Dr. Amanullah joining our Troy team, patients will have greater access to comprehensive medical and surgical eye care close to home.

Meet Dr. Sarah Amanullah

Dr. Amanullah specializes in cataract surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology. She brings advanced surgical training along with a patient-centered approach focused on diagnosing eye conditions, discussing treatment options clearly, and helping patients protect and improve their vision.

Her clinical interests and experience include:

• Cataract evaluation and surgery
• Advanced lens technology, including toric and multifocal or presbyopia-correcting lenses
• Comprehensive diagnosis and management of eye diseases
• Glaucoma care
• Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, also known as MIGS

Extensive Training In Ophthalmology and Cataract Care

Dr. Amanullah completed her undergraduate studies at Harvard University before completing her ophthalmology residency and a fellowship in Global Ophthalmology at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.

Her clinical and research experience includes cataract surgery, advanced lens technology, and glaucoma. Her research has also examined outcomes involving the Light Adjustable Lens. During her global ophthalmology fellowship, she traveled throughout sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and South America to perform and teach eye surgery in underserved communities.

Before joining Eye Center South, Dr. Amanullah practiced as a cataract surgeon and comprehensive ophthalmologist in Houston, Texas. She has contributed to ophthalmic research and peer-reviewed publications and previously served as a Clinical Instructor at Thomas Jefferson University.

Expanding Eye Care In Troy, Alabama

The addition of ophthalmology services represents a new chapter for our Troy office. Patients who already rely on Eye Center South for optometry and optical care will now have access to an ophthalmologist for medical and surgical eye care, with consultations and appropriate care available at the Troy location. While some minor procedures may be performed in Troy, all cataract and glaucoma surgeries requiring anesthesia and a surgery center will be performed in Dothan at Surgery Center South).

This expanded level of care can be especially valuable for patients experiencing cataracts, glaucoma, changes in vision, or other eye conditions that may require medical management or surgical evaluation.
