Can Hearing Loss Lead to Depression?

Studies have shown that individuals who suffer from hearing loss are much less likely to engage in social activities than those who are able to hear clearly. This degree of isolation from social interaction can very often lead to depression. Unfortunately, 1 in every 10 people (which exceeds more than 34.5 million Americans) experience hearing loss to some degree. Hearing loss is currently thought to be one of the most commonly ignored health conditions in the United States. However, hearing aids have proven to be a great solution to this issue. In individuals who regularly wear hearing aids, significant increases in mood and quality of life have been noted. Hearing aids have also been said to improve confidence, sense of safety, and have allowed people to become more actively engaged in social events.
