Diagnosing and Treating Cataracts

There are several options for treating cataracts. Generally, cataracts don’t harm the eye beyond impaired vision. However, if the cataract is diminishing your quality of life and/or interferes with your doctor’s ability to see the back of your eye to treat another eye problem, such as macular degeneration, or retinopathy, then surgery is recommended.

Our experienced staff will discuss whether you would like to continue wearing glasses after cataract surgery. We offer upgraded lens options that eliminate the need for glasses after surgery, however, these options are not covered by insurance. Currently, the top-of-the-line lens is the Light Adjustable Lens. This lens can be adjusted after your surgery, whereas other lenses aren’t adjustable because the prescription is engineered into them. This allows precise, fine-tuned customization of an individual patient’s prescription for optimal results.

What to Expect from Your Cataract Surgery

In most cases, treating cataracts involves replacing the eye’s natural lens with an implanted artificial lens. There are different types of lenses, with the premium choices offering clear vision at all distances, and while driving at night.

Cataract surgery is an outpatient surgery, which means you can recover in the comfort of your home after your procedure. You will be given pain medication and protective glasses to wear for the time that your eye is healing at home.

Treating Cataracts Is Safe and Effective

As with any surgery, there are risks involved in this procedure. If you don’t have other medical conditions or eye problems, the risks are minimal.
